I have been an Archery Leader for many years and qualified as a Grand National Archery Society Coach in 2001. Having travelled to many Scout sites and activity venues I became increasing aware of the variations in standards of instruction given at different venues and sites. In order to try to do something about this I put together a short course based on the GNAS Archery Leader award. This I had approved by two Senior GNAS Coaches and I started to deliver the course in 2002 to Scouting Leaders to try to standardise the level of instruction given at Scouting venues. The other side to this was that I was able to deliver a shorter course (1 weekend) at a reduced cost without loosing the high standard that I demanded. Groups pay for their archery sessions and are entitled to the best service and instruction that can be given.
In 2005 I started to put together the archery team for the Walesby world Experience in 2007. The team I gathered together and trained for the event called themselves the Centenary Archery Team. They had been brought together in the centenary of Scouting and decided that after the event they would stay together as a team and that they needed to have an identity and a uniform.
After the Walesby World Experience I took a back seat and all the members run the team. I just look after everybody and help where and when I’m needed.
